Billion dollar suits against Tobacco companies are passe. This article argues that the very same might be happening to the Food industry, given the recent suits against McDonald's and Hershey.
I have been a patron of McD, Frito-lay, Coke and Cadbury's for the last 8 months, and now a potential millionaire. Are girls listening ?
The height of stupidity Just look at this!! One of the most opiniated articles i have ever read.
The company was losing Rs. 40 lakhs every day of the Indian tax-payers(people like you and me) money. The government despite several restructuring exercises just could not manage it. Now that the government has sold it, it doesn't cost us a penny. And the government can rest in peace. Just applying common sense would suggest that the sell-off was a GOOD decision.

An Investment Banker working in Hong Kong forwarded me the way of doing business in Hong Kong
You have two cows. You sell three of them to your publicly listed company, using letters of credit opened by your brother-in-law at the bank, then execute a debt/equity swap with associated general offer so that you get all four cows back, with a tax deduction for keeping five cows. The milk rights of six cows are transferred via a Panamanian intermediary to a Cayman Islands company secretly owned by the majority shareholder, who sells the rights to all seven cows' milk back to the listed company. The annual report says that the company owns eight cows, with an option on one more. Meanwhile, you kill the two cows because the Feng Shui is bad.

The A2Z of the telecom battle in India...exciting enough to be part of this battle royale between Bharti and Reliance.

What do you think of the Future of Internet Cafes ?. There are two revenue models as of now - the "no frills" versions in Europe and the "cafe" versions in Asia. But with MMS, 3G, Wireless Internet access and 802.11b hotspots what is their future? My idea would be to promote internet cafes as "youth meeting points" or "nukkad addas" providing DJ music, big screen TVs, drinks, gaming, food tidbits and of course...be a ONE-STOP-SHOP for the modern youth.
Tip of the week
Never use an opt-out feature in an e-mail you never asked to receive in the first place. Most spam has an opt-out instruction, asking you to e-mail the sender if you don't want further mailings. In most cases, the sender's address is fraudulent and the message just bounces back to you. Actually all you've done is verify that you actually read the message and that your e-mail address is active. Instead of "opting out," you've essentially "opted in" for more spam.Spam

Everyday the frontpage of the South China Morning Post carries some news on the reforms taking place in different industries in China. Comparing China to India has almost become a favorite pastime for our group...we end up attributing our slow progress to the lack of ambition and our tendency to blame others for all our mistakes. An interesting ET Editorial on the same.

Ask any Indian Investor about Mutual Funds and all you will get is a frown. This article reasons what makes investors all across the globe feel betrayed from MFs. Hits right on the nail.

I have been tracking the Ambanis in Reliance and their strategy of market leadership over the last 10 years, specially the market for PTA/PSF. Their strategy has been very close to what Bill Gates does for Microsoft globally Microsoft Has a Vision
A new universal languageSmiley Dictionary. Most of us have being using some, but after a peek in this website, i am surprised to find how little we know? The whole would take a whole year to adapt. Any takers :-)

'Tis the season to be jolly,
And to recall corporate folly.
For the year was rich in intrigue and sin,
And that is where the mirth begins.
Lyin', stealin', and cheatin', too
Sure was a helluva 2002.
So let us now turn to the newsmakers
Each of whom made headlines by the acre.
Thats impressive . 2002

Ever since I have come back from Shenzhen I have been talking about why India cannot do what China has done. Some more comparisons are in these excellent columns by Mr. Rajesh "5000 million" Jain. Glimpses of China It is essentially a choice we Indians have made To sleep without electricity at night in houses without running water in sole exchange for the right to criticize our government and exercise our vote

The 10 most profitable resolutions for 2003. Profit from IT. Mine are quite close.
